Day 6 - Davenport, IA to Springfield, IL - John is heading west!!
About 270 miles today in 10 hours, but lots of stopping and detours. I came into Rte 66 at Dwight, IL and the pic is about 100 feet off the intersection, so I jumped right in! Photo op of something other than a road in front of my hood or icicles on my windshield.
Yes, I stopped traffic by pulling out into the other lane, but people are quite used to the spectacle. Even so, I got a lot of comments from locals about my "cool" truck. I was able to apply the window sticker for the first state on 66 I am travelling through. A little ritual I will hold as I enter each state.
The gas station pictured was right down the road about a 1/2 mile, so I picked a good entry point not named Chicago.
I drove just on the Mother Road today, although in some cases it was simply hugging the interstate and so I had the same scenery flying by, only with a bumpier road. I may revise that strategy.
I see more of you are posting. Perhaps include the initial of your last name as some of you have common names. Sorry. How did your parents know it was such a popular name?

Great pictures! You've got your mojo back.
