Day 8 ends in Joplin

The auto service shop ironically is on the corner of Route 66 and St. Louis Ave.  So my baby is close to the mother road for the weekend.

The shop found that the brake master cylinder lost a seal.  The shop could not ID the master cylinder, but luckily I had my "build book" in tow and was able to identify it as a Corvette cylinder.  They found one locally, but unfortunately it was not exactly right.  I went online and found one small detail that no one would have been able to tell us except the manufacturer (who called me back after we already discovered the difference).  They worked an hour past their quitting time to try and make it happen, but when it was discovered that the closest correct part was in Kansas City, we called it quits.

While all this evolved, I rented a car for the weekend.  The rental agency was only two blocks away, again on Route 66.  I had numerous discussions with Dick S. who I will still pick up at the airport and we will stay over in OKC and travel Rte 66 east to Joplin on Sunday.  Then we can book it out of their on Monday if the repair works.  Whew.  I am thankful for a lot of things - that it didn't happen in St. Louis yesterday at rush hour where I was braking a lot, that I wasn't left stranded on the Interstate, and that an excellent repair shop fit me into their crowded schedule and was diligent in trying to make the repair happen.

The truck kicking back for the weekend with its shoes off.

Not ideal driving a Toyota Camry on Route 66, but it IS quiet!

    1. Yes, Jerry, I thought the same thing. I at least had the front brakes. But the brake light pressure switch is on the rear line, so I not only lost the rear brakes when the seal blew, but also all brake lights! That was the clincher to make me stop immediately.
