Day 3 Revision - Montpelier, Idaho to Sidney, Nebraska

I got so sick of Wyoming, I just had to get out.

It started out all well and good, with picturesque ranch scenes, like hundreds of cows with their little new born calves out in pastures along the way.  But once on the Interstate, it became a gruesome endurance race.  All day long.

First was the speed limit of 80 mph once again.  And the trucks were in abundance.  Then the side winds with 40-50 mph gusts the entire way!  So that didn't do my gas mileage much good, then when I lost the internet out in the middle of nowhere, my second low fuel warning light came on.  The first one gives me about 25 miles leeway, but the second one only about 8 miles.  I guess that is why they made it red.  So without the internet, I had no clue where the next possible stop might be.  A rest stop magically appeared, and I asked the attendant what milepost we were out, thinking I could use my road atlas to gauge.  He actually didn't know!  He went outside to look for a signpost!!!  Argh...

So I dipped into my reserve gas supply, which was a lot earlier than I had thought.  Here I was saving it for the Mojave Desert!  But as it turned out, Wyoming is basically a sagebrush desert in that area, (thats what the call it!)  then prairie all the way to Laramie on the far side of the state.  No inhabitants except cattle and antelope (saw some).  The 2 gallons I added just made it to the next truck stop before the red light came on again.  I counted 80 miles between gas stations, and because I had filled up before that, I miscalculated how far between gas stations in Wyoming!  Think Alaska or Mojave Desert!

So I exited WY and the little Nebraska farm villages were a welcome sight.

Logged in over 500 miles today and travelled faster the closer I got.  Caught myself over 80 mph once.  Usually hummed along at 70 in the last 2 hours.

    1. Excellent idea, as I can go intentionally slow in the blizzard.
