Day 19 - Pasadena, CA
About 4:00 I got the call to come get my truck! There had been a short in the power supply to the fuel pump. So they replaced sections of wire and replaced the relay and it was good to go!
We met so many cool people. I feel privileged to have been given a glimpse of the Southern California car culture that defined the early hot rod era. The entire square block where these two businesses were located were full of custom shops of all sorts. Both American and foreign steel. If you are going to break down on a road trip, this is the place to do it!
And what amazing shops we found our way to! Every customer that we chatted with had nothing but good things to say about the honesty, skill level and expertise of the shop
John looking in wonder at the work being done by Sarkis
Lester, office manager, Sarkis, Owner, John retired!Walt Conn, owner of Car Cave that referred us to A & A Tire and Auto Repair.

So cool the OWNER of Car Cave took you to A&A!!! How did he like your old hot rod??
ReplyDeleteThey all enjoyed looking at it. Walt (Care Cave) said he fixes a lot of cars that owners buy at auction and don't have a clue how it was put together or what parts are involved. Sarkis (A&A) is well connected in the car scene and Walt sends stuff to him. I thanked Walt for getting me in there, and he commented "its just the gig down here". Like hot rodders simply share resources (like the old days). People seemed to just hang out at A&A and I can see why.
DeleteI bet the hot rod scene down there is pretty epic! Nice weather and nicer cars!
DeleteSee John for instructions if you ever need to turn a frustrating event into an interesting and fun story you will retell with a big smile the rest of your life.
ReplyDeleteLove that John started out seeing Route 66 but turns out that Route 66 gets the chance to see John!
